Harmony Is Fun

Harmony Is Fun
“I could explain harmony, but I’d rather sing for you.”
— Eddie Mejia, Lead, Singing since: 2002
Eddie is on fire about barbershop. On top of schoolwork and preparation for college, he spends most evenings and weekends rehearsing, learning new songs, and helping coordinate his group, The Young Miamians. He also manages to find time to coach a girls’ quartet at his school. He’s excited about the possibilities of YouTube and MySpace for promoting the craft, and marvels that his fiercest competitors are among his most generous teachers.
“In barbershop, everyone pitches in. And the more you help, the more you learn,” Eddie says. He sees no limit to the opportunities before him—and he is quick to give credit to role models and supporters like The Singing Miamians of Pinecrest.
With the expansion of Sing America youth programs, new singers won’t simply be exposed to barbershop. They’ll be educated, coached, developed, and supported into top-level competitors—and tomorrow’s role models.
